Building a Resilient Future, together

Implemented Solutions: A Foundation for Change

Through direct engagement with local communities, we have already begun to lay the groundwork for a more resilient Sundarbans. Within the framework of the Sustainable Development Goals and the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction, our work focuses on three core pillars of development:

1. Sustainable Livelihoods & Infrastructure

  • Climate-Resilient Infrastructure: We have developed climate-resilient drinking water and sanitation assets to secure basic health and hygiene.
  • Empowering Livelihoods: We support families through household horticulture, fishery, and other livelihood activities, ensuring food security and economic stability.
  • Agricultural Resilience: Our initiatives in agroecology including reducing water and chemical use for winter cropping help farmers adapt to changing climate patterns and improve soil health.

2. Community & Social Empowerment

  • Women's Leadership: We organize and empower women to lead climate action within their communities, fostering a new generation of local leaders.
  • Youth & Education: We support children with essential literacy and numeracy skills, building a stronger foundation for their future.

3. Environmental & Behavioral Initiatives

  • Resource Management: Our campaigns promote the social behavior change needed to reduce drinking water wastage and improve household and community hygiene.

Waste Management: We have implemented programs for single use plastic waste management at the household and community level, helping to protect the fragile coastal ecosystem.

Our Vision: A BRIDGE TO A GREEN-BLUE ECONOMY

Building on our foundation of implemented solutions, our proposed initiatives are designed to create a long-term, resilient future for the Sundarbans. We are planning and transitioning from a carbon economy to a green-blue economy through a multi-faceted approach.

1. Ecosystem & Climate Resilience

  • Nature-Based Solutions: We will restore and manage local ecosystems, including exploring nature-based solutions for disaster risk reduction.
  • Agricultural Innovation: We plan to expand our agroecology initiatives and focus on soil amendment to improve agricultural resilience.

2. Sustainable Infrastructure & Economy

  • Water Security: We aim to adapt all current and future WASH assets for climate resilience and explore managed aquifer recharge to secure water resources.
  • Energy Transition: Our vision includes a transition to clean energy for household cooking and lighting, moving away from a carbon-dependent model.
  • Waste Management: We aim to address the issue of all liquid and solid wastes and explore solutions to reduce, recycle and recover all forms of wastes.
  • Holistic Planning: We are working to understand and find solutions for the critical water-food-energy nexus, ensuring a sustainable and integrated economic model.

3. Community Empowerment & Future Leaders

  • Youth & Women Mobilization: We will continue to mobilize and empower women and youth to lead climate action and become catalysts for change.
  • Climate Literacy: Our plan includes introducing climate literacy to children, ensuring the next generation is equipped to be stewards of their environment.
